AUSTIN, Texas — Former University of Texas star Scottie Scheffler posted a 4-and-3 victory against Kevin Kisner in the championship match of the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play on Sunday afternoon at Austin Country Club. Scheffler recorded his third PGA TOUR victory in his last five starts with the win and will ascend to the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking when the new rankings are released on Monday.
Scheffler previously claimed the title at the WM Phoenix Open on Feb. 13 and the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard on March 6. He is one of 17 different former Longhorns to claim a win on the PGA TOUR. Those 17 individuals have now combined to capture 94 all-time PGA TOUR victories.
Scheffler never trailed in the championship match against Kisner, jumping out to a 3-up lead through the first six holes. Scheffler closed out the match with a par on the 15th hole.
He also never trailed in his 3-and-1 victory in the semifinals against Dustin Johnson on Sunday morning. Scheffler built a 5-up lead through 11 holes against Johnson, but Johnson rallied to win four-straight holes to trim the deficit to 1-up through 15 holes. Scheffler then won the par-five 16th hole to go 2-up and closed out the match on 17.
