LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Thanks to a partnership between River Ridge and the University of Lynchburg, the mall will host the largest regional health fair the community has seen in the last two years on Friday.
Presented by the University of Lynchburg, organizers say this free health fair — “Passport to Healthy Aging” — is designed for those 50 and older, with the goal of creating awareness about healthy living, providing general health screenings, and bringing awareness to resources and services available in the community.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 25 near Regal Cinemas.
“We know how important self-care is, especially these days, which is why we’re excited to host this health fair with our partners, as a way for adults to get active and take charge of their health,” said Lauren Spencer, retail marketing manager at River Ridge.
The health fair will feature a variety of healthcare vendors, who will provide attendees with general health screenings, free health information packets, wellness demos, and door prizes.
“Screenings are an important measure for early detection of diseases and will go a long way to help attendees lead happier, healthier lives,” according to organizers.
According to organizers, this year’s sponsors include the following:
- Anthem HealthKeepers Plus
- Bedford County Parks and Recreation
- Centra Home Health
- Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living
- Centra Rehabilitation
- First Care Health Services
- Gentle Shepherd Hospice
- Heritage Green Assisted Living and Memory Care

“The regional Health Fair offers tips and resources for staying healthy while helping residents connect with local resources in a fun and exciting way,” said Denise Scruggs, director of the Beard Center on Aging at the University of Lynchburg. “We hope the community will join us on the 25th for health information, health screenings, wellness demonstrations, door prizes, and fun!”
