Update: Police released the following information about the chase and crash:
“A DPS Trooper while on routine patrol attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2001 Nissan Sedan for a traffic violation. The Trooper activated the emergency equipment on is marked DPS patrol unit and the Nissan began to actively evade the Trooper. The Nissan proceeded through multiple intersections at a high rate of speed westbound towards the City of Killeen. Upon reaching the intersection of W.S. Young and Business 190, the Nissan attempted to turn south onto W.S. Young at an unsafe speed and crashed. The driver, identified as 20 year-old Amar Paciencio-Theodore Collins of Killeen, Texas, fled on foot. Two passengers in the vehicle were detained. Collins was apprehended moments later by law enforcement behind a nearby motel. The two passengers were identified and released from the scene. Collins was placed under arrest and was transported to the Bell County Jail. Collins was and charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle and booked in on multiple warrants.”
Texas DPS would like to remind motorists that evading arrest in a motor vehicle can not only be dangerous or deadly, it is a felony offense punishable up to 2-10 years in prison and a possible fine up to $10,000.00.
A vehicle pursuit ended with a maroon in color vehicle resting at an approximately 45-degree angle in a culvert in Killeen Thursday afternoon.
The pursuit ended near the intersection of W.S. Young Drive and East Veterans Memorial Boulevard, near McDonald’s.
Several Killeen police officers and troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety were on scene providing traffic control and investigating the incident.
One trooper with the DPS confirmed it was a vehicle pursuit but did not have any more information.
