Just once in the last 17 years have the Minnesota Timberwolves made the playoffs and they’re on the precipice this year. With a win over the Clippers in Tuesday’s NBA play-in game at 8:30 p.m. ET, the Wolves would lock up the No. 7 seed in the West and a first-round matchup with the Grizzlies. But before Minny thinks about Memphis, it must first contend with Paul George, Reggie Jackson and a feisty Clippers squad. Should you look towards the veteran Clippers when crafting your NBA DFS strategy, or should you favor the youth of the Timberwolves?
Minnesota has three go-to scorers in Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell. However, none has lots of experience in these types of high-pressure environments, which may cause concern for daily Fantasy basketball players. So, which will be worth their NBA DFS price tags on sites like FanDuel and DraftKings? Before you make your NBA DFS picks for Tuesday, be sure to check out the NBA DFS advice, player rankings, stacks and top daily Fantasy basketball picks from SportsLine’s Mike McClure.
McClure is a DFS professional with nearly $2 million in career winnings. He’s also a predictive data engineer at SportsLine who uses a powerful prediction model that simulates every minute of every game 10,000 times, taking factors like matchups, statistical trends and injuries into account.
This allows him to find the best NBA DFS values and create optimal lineups that he shares only over at SportsLine. They’re a must-see for any NBA DFS player.
On Sunday, McClure listed Thunder forward Jaylen Hoard in his top NBA DFS picks on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Hoard ended the season on a high note with 14 points, 15 rebounds and three assists. His performance returned 42.75 points on DraftKings and 41.5 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.
Now, McClure has turned his attention to the Tuesday, April 12, NBA DFS slate and locked in his top daily Fantasy basketball picks. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.
Top NBA DFS picks for Tuesday, April 12
One of McClure’s top NBA DFS picks for Tuesday includes Nets forward Kevin Durant at $12,000 on DraftKings and $11,400 on FanDuel. Durant finished the year averaging 29.9 points which is his highest scoring average in eight years. The four-time scoring champ filled up the box score on a nightly basis with 7.4 rebounds and a career-high of 6.4 assists, while his four triple-doubles this season set a career high.
Durant dropped a 36-5-5 stat line on the Cavs when he saw them just four days ago after averaging 25 PPG in his first two games versus Cleveland. His point total for tonight should be closer to the former than the latter as the Cavs remain without their best defender in Jarrett Allen, who was also unavailable in the game between the two teams last week. With this essentially a postseason game, we should see the very best from Durant whose 29.5 PPG in the playoffs is the third-highest average in NBA history.
Another part of McClure’s optimal NBA DFS strategy includes rostering Timberwolves center Towns ($10,300 on DraftKings and $9,700 on FanDuel). KAT will enter tonight’s game on a streak of three straight games with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. He’s averaged 25 points, 11.3 boards and four assists per game over this stretch.
With a win-and-in scenario tonight, Towns should see well over 40 minutes of court time, and that will allow him to pile up more stats. In the five games he averaged at least 40 minutes this year, he put up 31.2 points, 12.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. He also gets a plus-matchup versus the Clippers as while LA hangs its hat on its defense, it was among the bottom 10 teams in Fantasy points allowed to opposing centers on both DraftKings and on FanDuel.
